You got it wrong somehow. Or are you just pretending you didn't know? Anyway, for your edification, here goes:- What was unknown to you was that I was also tacitly referring to earlier history (mentioned in earlier posts) hearkening back to the time of the Crusades and then closer to our times, the incursions of the European powers in the Middle East after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire (~1920). From then on until the late 1940s, European powers were in the Middle East exploiting whatever they could and they committed a lot of skullduggery with impunity. They even created Israel in 1948 much to the resentment and annoyance of the Moslems. The French had colonies along the coast of North Africa and they were disliked because their colonial masters ruthlessly exploited them. To be sure, all that created much pentup resentment and emotions that seethed against the west over the centuries and which found expression, when conditions somehow became peculiarly favourable for the Islamists, in that spectacular 9/11. As far as the Islamists are concerned, America represents the west, and America is Satan. Are you familiar with the wars in the Middle East between the Israelis and the Arabs in the 50s, 60s and 70s? And did you know that the Jewish Lobby (a virtual Kingmaker)is very strong and influential in American politics? So, here, America is being resented in this connection. Are you familiar with the fact that Osama and his followers resented the presence of the Americans in Saudi Arabia as early as 1986. He believes that Americans defile the sacredness of their country. He wanted them to leave. Did you know that the Americans manipulated the Iraqis and Iranians into a 8-year long mutually destructive war from late 1979 to about 1980. In that war the Americans supplied Iraq with poison gas, anthrax & etc, and they sold modern weapons to Iran. The purpose of that war was to weaken both states so that at some later point in time it would be relatively easy to attack either one of them for their OIL!!! The presence of the US in Iraq at present is right on schedule! Did you know that the US give ~$2 billion dollars to Israel and none to the Palestinians and they resent the US siding with the Israelis at every turn. To be sure, all this arouse much resentment. And there's much much more. Too bad I don't have the time to write more. You will do well to read more about it in the library or on the internet. Far too many see this conflict as a case of some crazy and callous Islamists pulling "stunts" for no valid rhyme or reason. But the Jihadists insists they are out to get even and to right injustices perpetrated against them over the centuries. Remember, the terrorists said that the Madrid train disaster was payback for the Crusades!!!! In a nutshell, all I am saying that the Islamists are on a Jihad based on just some of the things I mentioned above. While I don't agree with their methods, I can see where they are coming from. I don't and can't see them succeeding. But that will mean an ongoing strife, with twists and turns, spanning ages to come. Maybe at some point in the future after we are long dead and gone, they might be able to do much better than now and then some..... Unless, of course, before that point is reached, cooler heads prevail, and then peace and understanding reign supreme. And then Peace on Earth and Goodwill to all....????
