So do you think it was good politics for bush to position himself with a losing issue--the const amendment againat gay marriage?

Polls consistently show that a majority of the voters are against gay marriage. It was a good political move force the Dems to take a position on it.

michael: what plays well in Peoria is good politics for the Republicans. And the gay marriage debate, tied to the Constitutional amendment defining traditional marriage, plays extremely well in Peoria.

Therefore the Bush position is a vote-getting position. The fact that the Senate voted down the proposed amendment winds up as a plus in Peoria for the Bush position.
