Ted, Such nonsense........you think that if you don't grant licenses, all the illegals will pack up and go back to Central America?

And you claim I'm the one who suffers from seeing things in "black or white."

If we're going to give driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, we might as well just open up our whole immigration policy. Otherwise, we're just going to coddle to those who essentially "cut in line," thereby screwing over those who are seeking to enter this country legally. And I know quite a few people who are trying to do just that.

Ten, seriously, you need to get a better understanding of how these things work. If the powers to be did not want illegals in this country, they would not be here. In the time I was in CA, I began to see a pattern......when times got bad and the unemployment rate went up, they would bolster the guards at the border and cut down on the number of illegals entering the country. They would not turn off the spigot completely; just enough to slow it down. When times were good, they pulled back the guards. Too many rich people benefit from their cheap labor to stop it. CA's economy especially is hooked on their low wages.

Think about it for a moment......how has CA remained a manufacturing stalwart when its overhead costs have gone through the roof. When the equivalent thing happened in Boston or NYC, industry moved out lock, stock and barrel. CA has only had some of that movement out. Why? Illegals have made it possible to have a growing economy with sky high overhead prices.

That's why Bush took the position he did on illegals. That was pretty shocking stuff for a GOP president. Why do you think he did?

Personally, I support vastly raising the limits on legal immigration, but we still need to get a handle on the whole process. Half-assed solutions like driver's licenses for illegals are merely there to pander to minority voters, and of course, there's also that minor matter of national security to consider.

I agree with you completely, but you've got to know when and where to fight. I learn that the hard way in CA. Trust me, you will never win this one. The only way illegal immigration will slow is if the Central American economies start to generate enough jobs to keep up with the growth in their labor markets. IMO that's the only real solution to the problem......and then, CA will go through a painful withdrawal.

Impinj pitches its chips for radio tags; retailers eager

archives.seattletimes.nwsource.com;

Disclosure [in case INTC eyes are watching]: You have said nada about looking for another job.

Nonetheless, I thought I bring to your attention a new semi company that just got venture capital funding for a new chip. While there headquarters is here, they have an office in OC and they are hiring a couple of people per month. Thought you might want to check them out: getting in on the ground floor, lucrative stock options etc.
