"...the fumes from a gallon of gasoline went off."

Last summer I was in Bloomington, Ill. (probably close to you, huh) and we stopped at a convenience store to gas up. I got out and put the nozzle in and started the pump. I couldn't see the digital stuff in the display because the sun was reflecting off of it. So, I went over to the pump and put my hands against the display to shade the thing and put my eyes up against it so's I could get a read on the price and how much gas we had so far.

The person in the drivers seat took this to mean that I couldn't figure out how to get the pump working and got out to see if she could solve the problem. I didn't know that but as I backed away from the pump, I saw her take the pump handle out of the hole and turn toward the pump with it. I guess she thought she needed to start over. The pump was gushing full blast and she drenched me in gas.

We stood there staring at each other and waiting for the next shoe to drop because there was a smoker in the car. But, I didn't get lit. Schweeeweee, close one.

Oh, Ish, please tell me you were not smoking. At gas stations, I have my heart in my mouth when I see people putting gas in their cars while smoking. Can't get out of there fast enough. - Holly

p.s. Started pumping my own gas many moons ago when I came to realize I was paying $0.50 a gallon more for the privilege of sitting in my car and letting someone else do it. But yes, I still hate it.
