You keep hoping that something will change......that Iraq will right itself or that Iran will reverse course and move towards democracy or that Afghanistan will bloom into a model nation My view of the Iraq war is that I cannot see how it could have gone better. I am amazed to hear the Left criticizing the war effort. It has been a phenomenal win, we have turned over a functioning, relatively secure situation to the Iraqis ON SCHEDULE a little over a year after the war started. NOBODY, NOBODY believed this was even mildly conceivable the day the war began. Functioning? The gov't has little if any control over the country. Yesterday, the gate leading to the green zone, the safest part of Baghdad, was blown up and 30 people were killed. Beheadings have become a weekly event. The oil pipeline gets blow up every other week. Insurgent attacks occur daily. Shia militias have sprung up everywhere and act as defacto police persecuting, torturing and killing people who are caught drinking alcohol, not wearing headgear, failing to attend the Mosque and the like. Bush handed over the gov't to the Iraqis 28 June because he desperately needs to distant himself if he hopes to win the November election.People have very short memories sometimes. While it is bad to have lost soldiers' lives in the process, the reality is that the losses have not been unexpectedly large and we have set Iraq on the track for some reasonable form of a representative government, likely a democracy. I suspect the people who lost love ones in Iraq or the guys missing a leg or an arm will have long memories. Did you know that 60% of the people returning from Iraq are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome? A much higher percentage than after the Gulf war. The Michael Moores and tejeks and Als of the world are simply liars who would do or say anything to be critical of Bush. I guess that horse puckey caught between your ears is still there. Too bad.........use a q tip. Bush and Cheney have run the government with absolute, indisputable integrity (not seen since the LAST president Bush left office). Not one bonafide scandal or even a hint of impropriety in 4 years. Total competence in every respect. Apparently, you have much lower standards.......an increasing deficit, poor security at the airports after three years of trying, high unemployment, lagging job growth, a loss of allies, increasing violence directed against Americans and their properties world wide etc. do not suggest "competence in every respect".So, go ahead and bash. November is coming, and I think it is clear that the Left is collapsing under the weight of sorry anti-American idiots like Whoopie Goldberg and Michael Moore. No, we gain strength from Bush's follies, Goldberg's antics notwithstanding. She got a little ahead of herself...that's all. ;~) Bush has been the best thing for the Democratic party since the invention of liberalism. We thank you and yours. <g>
