The Bush administration has obtained from the Justice Department a legal opinion that says the Treasury Department has authority to limit future debt issuance by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- a big step toward curbing the spectacular growth of the mortgage giants.

Though the Treasury Department is unlikely to exercise its authority soon, Bush administration officials hope the opinion will pressure the congressionally chartered, shareholder-owned companies to negotiate a deal over long-stalled legislation to toughen their oversight. Administration officials also are pushing other initiatives, including an increase in the percentage of business that Fannie and Freddie reserve for low-income and moderate-income borrowers, which the companies say is excessive.

concerning yield

do you ve any opinion on canadian oil and gas trusts ?

seems they give a nice yield and if trainwreck happens a nice upward in price as assets will become more valuable

info appreciated

i also own NZ CDs and AUD govies. they've been having a nice move following the correction earlier this year. the only reason i didn't buy GBP was it didn't correct as much.

Why would any American want to hold 1 1/4% T-bills in USD?
as collateral for 2010 crude futures. can't think of another reason : )
