So far you have only expressed concern about good guys carrying guns. Not at all. It's your assumption that anyone carrying a visible gun is a good guy. I recognize that I have no way of knowing the good guys from the bad guys. All I know is that a person is carrying a dangerous tool in a place where the tool is not normally relevant. Why he has it is unknown to me. As for Mq's comment about a "helluva way to live" to which I responded, it is. Much nicer when we can assume that the people with whom we share the commons are good citizens, not out to do us harm. When the critical mass of "evil-doers" reaches the point where we assume enough probability of ill intent that we set up metal detectors, we are in a helluva place. Either that or we're pathologically risk averse. If we are not in that "helluva place," then there is no need for metal detectors or carrying guns.
