would think that the rand has been in overvalued territory for some time; then again, and as I understand it, the SA financial sector is larger than other sectors of their economy and you KNOW what effect that has on one's currency....

Maybe they're building their own inverted derivatives pyramid economy based on an "unassailable" rand....

Sorry this is a bit dated, but it has some interesting charts in it. It shows a RAND/US Dollar Trend which was followed by a large under valuation of the RAND which is now being followed by a correction that has overshot the trend. According to the trend, fair value would be around 8 RAND to 1 Dollar. Of course, there is no telling how far it will overshoot and it is just TA hocus pocus.
