> who did the polling, when was the poll conducted and under what circumstances?

Nielson India, I think. It is stated in the poll.

> Was it a polling agency with a proven track record?

Yes

> Was it someone from the US or Afghan government?

No.

> Did they only poll men, women, people with jobs, people without jobs, the Afghan military and/or government workers or did they poll the average Afghani person walking down the street?

That was my suspicion at first too, but they seem to have done a double random and normalized poll which they claim to be accurate within 3.5%. They discuss their methodologies and statistics in the complete report which is available on the net.

My main objection is that they rely too much "soft" subjects to get to their conclusions and are light on questions about hard facts.

> The reasons terrorists do what they do, or how they plan to achieve their goals are a mystery to the great majority of us.

Sad but true...though there are solutions to this problem, beginning with listening to the other side.

> Our only goal should be to try prepare as well as we possibly can by enlisting the support of all citizens and ensure cooperation among the various agencies who's job it is to protect us.

I think understanding motives, which you seem to dismiss easily, goes a long way towards coming up with a good solution. You cannot effectively fight an enemy that you do not understand.

Agree, M~. We all can see the folks who want to hide their heads, and continually carp about what is being done. It is interesting to see there are NO other ideas of what can or should be done....just carping.

Our only goal should be to try prepare as well as we possibly can by enlisting the support of all citizens and ensure cooperation among the various agencies who's job it is to protect us. By making people aware and educated about the possibilities.....we have fallen far short of that goal imo..... and hope or pray that we cover all bases.
