Ads featuring Ms. Goldberg will no longer be on the air.” With these words, the “Slim-Fast” corporation has shown me some important things. First, and probably foremost, Slim-Fast is concerned about their consumers. If something affects their clientele, then that affects the bottom line. Anything that affects the bottom line has to be dealt with for good, or for bad. My personal opinion is more than “some” consumers complained. If it had been only a few, nothing would have happened. This had to be a substantial number of complaints. The point is; there were enough complaints to get someone’s attention. Secondly, Slim-Fast has distanced itself from smut. The corporation has taken the leadership position that may cost consumers that agree with Ms. Goldberg’s “X-rated” ranting. This is a bold action in the face of liberalism. I can hear it now, as it was with the Howard Stern thing. Stern was booted from only 6 of his 200 plus radio stations and the Bush Administration was accused of censorship, when it is within the perfect purview of any independent radio station to carry whatever programming they want; you know; Freedom of Speech, Association and all that Constitutional type stuff? Anyway, I’m sure Ms. Goldberg will make the talk show circuit now, and liberal media will take Slim-Fast to task for censorship, and “The Whoopster” will be accorded all the same protectionism as that enjoyed by Michael Jackson. Heck! The ACLU may even take this case as a civil rights issue. The fact is, Slim-Fast is allowed, since it is a corporation operating in the free society of America; to hire and fire anyone at any time for any reasonable cause. Slim-Fast believed the “X- rated” wine drinking image Ms. Goldberg demonstrated was not the image of the Slim-Fast Corporation. Sometimes the stars that promote our products can dig into themselves and see their own hypocrisy. We have seen this recently in the withdrawal of the Olsen Twins from the “Got Milk” campaign. I praise them for acting quickly to help themselves, rather than fall into the same trap as others who have recently fallen from public grace. Ms. Goldberg has no such shame. I want to thank the Slim-Fast corporation for standing up for quality. You can disagree with anyone as long as you are civil about it. When you resort to “X-rated” ranting, you show a lack of intelligence and you put a face on the American scene that is abhorrent and impractical for doing business. Slim-Fast has recognized this. I also want to thank all the consumers of Slim- Fast that contacted the corporation about this event. You have shown me there is still a core of Americans who understand the meaning of “over-the- line”. You have also shown me that liberalism is going to have its hands full come Election Day. ------------ About the Author: Michael John McCrae is an Independent, Conservative, Christian who has been personally insulted as a voter because John Kerry thinks the "Heart and Soul of America" lays in the "X- rated sexual innuendo" of Whoopi Goldberg. Well, Michael McCrae thinks America is better than that. Michael McCrae believes there is at least some morality left. So Michael McCrae is going to leave this here (until after the election) as a reminder to all of what John Kerry and John Edwards believe the Real America to be. They believe America's "heart and soul" resides in the "X-rated sexual innuendo" of Whoopi Goldberg. You can draw your own conclusions. Email: michael.mccrae@us.army.mil
