There is news out today that S. Daniel Abrahams is NOT currently the Chairman for Slim Fast. He left Slim Fast in 2000 (so the news says, although checking opensecrets.org, it must have been after 12/2000, as he gave a donation, again to the Democratic Party in Dec of 2000.) Unilever bought Slim Fast at that time.

Won't take too much checking for an enterprising journalist to see what political parties the folks at Unilever donate to.... But they are smart to get rid of her. Whoopi managed to totally make 50% of their customers PO'd with her very large potty mouth.

And Whoopi has the guts to continue to blame the Republicans for not allowing her the right to free speech. Instead, she should be honest. The heads of the company she was advertising for, were genuinely upset that such a loud mouth could not only speak for the Democrats and John Kerry, but that she was speaking for Unilever and SlimFast as well.

FWIW

I received an email from Slim fast in reply to my letter.

Here it is:

July 16, 2004

Dear MM,

Thank you for contacting us recently about our use of Whoopi Goldberg, specifically regarding her remarks made at the recent fundraiser at Radio City Music Hall. The manner in which Ms. Goldberg chose to express her personal beliefs at this event do not reflect the views and values
of Slim·Fast.

Slim·Fast selected Whoopi Goldberg as its spokesperson because of her commitment to losing weight, which we applaud.

We are disappointed by the manner in which Ms. Goldberg chose to express herself and sincerely regret that her recent remarks offended you. Advertisements featuring Ms. Goldberg will no longer be on air.

We appreciate you sharing your views with us and we hope you will continue to use Slim·Fast as your partner in healthy weight management.

Sincerely,

Lauren O'Kelley
