Ann Corrigan and longnshort, your posts indicate to me that you have a long way to go with the state of affairs of the public education system in this country. This is more shocking to me since Ann I believe has been born here and she thinks that since I have not lived here for long, I am not so up with public education.

Let me give you folks a hint and side with the "private school" concept a bit, which is the position you imply with your posts. Do some Google search on Charter schools and Magnet schools and please find out what the Bush Administration has done with regards to that in the past 4 months or so. And find out for yourself what the NEA stance has been with these concepts.

I am not even sure if you folks even know the details of the NCLB, Title 1 and how these are pegged to Charter Schools and Magnet schools. It was Clinton who patronized this concept. Who else but he, a product of public schools, would know of the benefits of such revolutionary concepts in public education. I would hope that president Kerry would draw on Clinton's personal experience in public education.

The fundamental difference between a labor union and teachers' union. Labor union fights for a share of the profits. teachers' union fight for increased funding for the classrooms, textbooks and with it a decent COLA. There is no profit in public education to fight over.
