If that is true, why are so many companies reporting a slow down.

And others are not reporting slow downs or are reporting expansion. Combine that with a relatively short period of time that these companies are reporting slowdowns over and you basically get a situation where there isn't enough data to be significant. More data still shows expansion or even strong expansion then contraction or slow down.
