My niece's 5th grade Science teacher came to school with alcohol on his breath almost every day. Her 1st yr at the school I accompanied her & my sister to Meet the Teachers night. The current Science text book was on display....it was published in late 70s. I asked the teacher why the book wasn't more recent....he said it was the one issued to his first class 20yrs ago. I then noticed a computer in the classroom & asked if it had internet access. He said "yes, why do you ask?" I told him that more recent science info is available on WWW. He wasn't interested. So, next day my sister called the principal & complained about the obsolete text book....2mos later up-to-date Science textbooks were distributed to the children. The teacher was not happy. He was a scourge next yr as well & the school never took disciplinary action. The poor excuse for a teacher cancelled that yr's Science Fair. That's the type of incompetence that's protected by the Teachers' Union. The educational community yells so loud about NCLB because it insists that student test scores improve, or funding is endangered. Horrors! Teacher performance actually tested!!--welcome to the real world.
