I respect the New York Times for owning up to their very poor journalistic judgement in the pre-war period. I wish Bush would do the same, as Blair did very recently. It is wrong to blame the intelligence agencies for the failure of political leaders to formulate good foreign policy.

The New York Times, along with the media in general, did far too little to probe and question the weakness of the case for war and the foreign policy upon which the war was based. The same could be said for Congress -- to rubber stamp a war, in advance with so little investigation was a travesty of their responsibility. The behavior of the Democrats was absolutely shameful. I have rarely if ever seen such irresponsible behavior in such an important political process.
