Ed, Much of what you said I totally agree with. As an American I find the situation disgusting. As an oil and gas investor - I will not give back my profits. Eventually we as a nation will respond - once things get really bad and a consensus emerges. I remember political dispair - but the nation elected Reagan. A similar event occurred when the book Silent Spring galvanized us to action on the environment. I do not know what the event will be that moves us on energy - likely some serious shortfall in supply due to a crisis in the middle east. A cold winter or a hot summer could do it also. The last couple years have miraculously saved us from our selves.

Bob

Hi Ed... just finished reading a book named "The end of oil" :http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0618239774/qid=1090089668/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/104-7123697-2157500

Published this year so it has some fairly timely stuff in it. One thing that took me by surprise was all the Chinese energy demand and coal which they have plenty of but what it's doing and going to do to the world's environment going forward. Quite frankly it is frightening.

If you or anyone else would care to read my copy just pm me an address and I will mail it off. All I would ask is if more than one person requests it that one would ship it on to the next person.

It is rather interesting and the author offers up some solutions but none of which I will imagine be considered until crisis is upon us.

Scott

Edward, with regard to your first paragraph I want to say that we can explore offshore resources and nuclear energy without damaging the oceans. I am not ignoring the shortcuts other countries take because they are trying to save money, nor advocating using lower safety standards, but we have not built a nuclear plant or refinery in the US since the Three Mile Island incident in the late seventies. We cannot drill off Florida or California. We say we want to be energy independent yet do nothing about it, beside disproportionately increase consumption.

As to the other paragraphs, I believe you have very eloquently stated many of the points we, including myself, believe in as well.
