Hi KLP, the biggest differences I see is in the baggage handling areas. In Italy it's very difficult to go backwards through baggage claims to the terminals, in Greece it's a joke. Someone could easily bypass the metal detectors and walk backward through baggage to the terminals in Athens. That to me is a serious gap in the system, much of it caused by airport design imo. The Madrid airport also has this problem. My bag landed on the next flight from Milan and I had no one stop me as I left the baggage collection area and came back through the opposite way to get my bag an hour and a half later.

In Italy they have 5 times as many policemen in uniform walking around and checking bags as we do in the U.S. The checkers are hardly ever rushed because the system is capable of handling large quantities of people.

Philadelphia is the worst airport I have ever seen. I think the place should be shut down until a top to bottom level review is conducted. Large amounts of international traffic from Europe go directly there and the entire system is pathetic.

I see our biggest problem being size. Our ariports are simply too big and too overcrowded. We need to build more airports, that would ease the security problems.
