Tommaso, <<But this Iraq thing is a mess, though not as big a mess as Vietnam>>

... has the script ended, or are we just in inter-session (the half time show, in ACF Mike's neighborhood ;0)

A careful 'yet' may be a good idea.

As to the Russians, they will do what is good for themselves, and themselves only, getting some folks hopes up, set off a greater mess, or collapse in a heap trying to please others. It is an ancient script, and it always turns out one self salvation way.

Chugs, Jay

Hitler's equally incredible mistake was declaring war on the US, dragging it into a war in which a majority of the American people had not wanted to participate. Their idea was to concentrate on Japan. "Hitler hasn't attacked us." After a few days Hitler made up their minds by attacking at sea and declaring war.
Without 1. the bravery of the British, standing alone against Hitler, 2. the bravery of the Russian soldiers, who lost the most lives and killed the most Nazis, 3. the bravery of the US soldiers and 4. the abundance of US industrial capacity, without all 4 of these I think Hitler would have won. His first victories made him drunk with power. He way underestimated all four of these factors.
