I believe Bush won the 2000 election on a fluke

A fluke it was...basically a draw. At least you admit he won <g>

Not exactly......he won but not because he won the vote or the hearts and minds of the majority of Americans. He won because of a fluke.......a coming together of some unusual circumstances coupled with an aggressive move on the part of the GOP.

You would be surprised at how many people are still angry over this issue. They are not a majority but they do make up a sizeable minority. The system was badly abused in 2000 and they know it.

However, there is a bigger issue in all of this.......this fortunate aligning of the stars and the event of 9/11 afforded Bush an incredible opportunity to unite this country behind him and to put the US in a favorable position vis a vis other nations. People like me who did not trust him from his campaigning days and did not believe his spin would have been forever silenced. To his lack of credit, he squandered that opportunity in a way that I never could have predicted. At one time, this election was his to lose but he lost that favorable situation several months ago. And its not because he ruled from his heart rather than his brain like some contend. Instead, he insisted on implementing an ideology that was distasteful to many because he thought his unique popularity would allow him to get away with it.

In that one scenario, Bush has proven to me that he is not the leader the right thought he was. In fact, he should never have run for president. I don't know if he will lose in November, but I do know that he has lost considerable valuable time for this country; that these were important years that were p*ssed away; and that the war on terrorism has been placed in a very precarious position.

I suspect you will not agree with this analysis.......and that's okay. Its for history to judge. We'll know in 10 years or more if I am right in my conclusions. <g>
