CK, FYI:

The energy horizon is not as gloomy as everyone (..especially the hapless, helpless, hand-wringing Demoncrats..) want to make it seem.

We simply need to wean the USA off of burning petroleum for general energy production. Oil is a really good lubricant and basic material for plastics, but wasting it as fuel is rather dumb. Wind and solar energy are '..sexy..', but it's not the answer either. Tidal and wave-power (..which is being ignored..), and pumped-stored-energy systems have a lot of promise - if you could kill all the arsehole, pseudoKnow-it-All, Hollyweird tree-huggers and silly-arse Demoncrat snail-darter lovers that are always in the way.

Hence, my crew and I have been working in "..advanced anaerobic digestion.." (AD) for the past two years (..i.e.: deriving Methane 'BioGas' from digestible sources such as animal manure, wet garbage, waste streams from meat processing plants, wood yard wastes, etc..). Our consortium is not a public company, although that could change in the next two+ years, and we already have some exciting news. We'll have one relatively small SBR-type dairy operation up and running as of next week. And, we just received a contract and "Notice to Proceed" on a 10MWe power system using wood yard wastes in CA.

As Johnny Carson used to say, "...More to come....

Our process is also applicable to the wastewater treatment requirements from meat processing plants, were the object is to reduce BOD & COD in their waste stream going to the municipal treatment palnt and subsequently saving them mney on treatment costs. The BioGas from that system is used onsite to heat the refrigerated plant's biofluid up to digesting temperatures - making the process energy self-sustaining. Even more exciting is the prospect of doing feedlot manure-to-BioGas conversion in the area of large natural gas fields, where their existing equipment (..sour gas scrubbers, dryers, etc..) allow us to do direct injection into existing natural gas pipelines system. "..Part is parts..", and Methane is Methane, whether is comes from snoozing dinocritters a 1000 feet down or readily available and obviously renewable moo-poo, etc.

We have two designs that we offer. (1) Sequential Batch Reactors (SBRs) where the digestible media is contained in prefabricated containers (modified and insulated seatainers) and 'cooked' for 26+/- days to gather the BioGas, and (2) Advanced Biowaste Process Systems (ABPS) where continuous plug-flow digesters of a very unique design are used to extract the BioGas. In all our systems, iron oxide scrubbers are used to remove the H2S (..hydrogen sulfide = rotten egg smell..) from the gas stream. Where the economy-of-scale works, we can also scrub out the CO2 with molecular sieves (..and make dry ice out of it, etc..) leaving pure Methane = natural gas.

Running a power house boiler or a piston or gas-turbine electrical generator on BioGas is a no brainer, you just have to change (..some of..) the burners, carburettors or throttle bodies out to burn the slightly more dilute BioGas fuel (..if we don't remove the CO2..).

There's really no reason for the USA to be burning oil in engines or boilers to produce electricity, or to make steam for ethanol plants or grain drying, etc., when we can do it with "..poo-fuel..", etc.

Per Bob Dylan, "...The times they are a changin'..", Bubba..... And, as opposed to what happens when Congressional Demoncrats are involved, a brain is a terrible thing to waste, ....so we're "..on da case..", aye.

John :-)
