Can't imagine why you thought that! I'm certainly for choice of plans, but do think that everyone should have a plan of some sort. Even it means taking the premium out of their welfare check!!

What perhaps you don't know is the Government has MANY choices of plans to choose from for employees. The US Senate alone had 16 (Sixteen) different plans from which to choose, last time I checked.

Since the US Taxpayers pay for a good percentage of the premiums for Government workers, I think therefore, the Taxpayers should be considered a Corporation.....Called the US Taxpayers Company. Then EACH taxpayer could have the very same access to EVERY insurance plan out there that the Government employees had access to....

The taxpayer could pay their own premiums, but have access to all the plans AND the premium costs that Government employees have currently.

This would not only broaden the choice of plans for the taxpayer, it would broaden the "risk pool" for the insurance companies, and it should keep the amount of the premiums lower, because the risk pool is so large.

For those people who do not pay Federal Taxes....a separate plan. Perhaps one that is similar to what some of the States currently have called Basic Medical Insurance....BUT this plan would be mandatory for everyone who pays no Federal taxes....The premiums could be a small percentage of their income (2%-5%). Perhaps all insurance companies could band together for this one, and share the risk, but at least provide at least one type of basic insurance.

Just as a for instance....Currently, even with a very small business plan (under 5 employees) for 2 people we pay $1150.00 EACH month, with co-pays for drugs and co-pays for procedures, etc. The same individual coverage plan without that small business plan is even higher!

One of my relatives works for the State Government. Her plan for 2 people, is less than $60.00/month for 2 people, with $15.00 co-pays......!!!
