But why would others like Japanese or Chinese Americans (or for that matter, African Americans) feel more comfortable living among themselves in Los Angeles - but happily move to non-asian (or non-black) communities in Orange County?

"Birds of a feather." A lot of blacks, Asians, Iranians, etc, move to neighborhoods with the same ethic BG when they move to upscale communities. A lot don't, of course. But the old idea of "salt and pepper" was another liberal myth.

In Orange County, I would always find pockets of Iranians, Taiwanese, and blacks when I called on new tracts. The new High School in North Irvine is almost 100% Asian. Almost all Taiwanese. One Irvine tract is all Iranian.
