Karen, your relative has a great deal. Her state must pick up almost all of the cost. In order to evaluate the premise we're discussing we would need to know the total cost of her package.

Here are some numbers we know. I am in the biggest pool of them all, the Federal pool. I have the Blue Cross plan, the biggest plan. Unlike your relative's, my plan does not include vision or meaningful dental care. The cost for a couple is $10140 gross, $245 a month of which is paid by the employee.

Compare that with what your relative gets and pays and then try to tell me that pool size is the salient factor in cost.

Now, how much more than $10140 does a couple have to pay to get health insurance on the open market? Would $10140 be a good deal for you? Do you want in?
