You do. Many of the people who would probably make the best teachers don't go into teaching because they can make more money elsewhere. The only real perks to teachers are a short year (made up by extra hours during the year, really), and decent job security. I'm arguing that you can add accountability by making the job security less important by paying teachers more, and also that paying teachers more will attracted more talented people.
