2 days + 2 hours pass...

According to the U.S. National Debt Clock
brillig.com

The Outstanding Public Debt as of 21 Jul 2004 at 01:07:40 PM GMT now stands at:
$ 7 , 2 8 2 , 1 8 8 , 4 7 1 , 5 2 2 . 1 9

The estimated population of the United States now stands at 293,786,740

Each man, woman and child's share of the debt has increased to $24,787.33.

In 26 hours,
the national debt has increased by $3,977,438,848.46

In 26 hours,
the population of the U.S. has increased by 13,309

In 26 hours,
each man, woman and child's share of the debt has
increased by $12.42.

For a family of four, that works out to $49.68.

What could a family of 4 do with almost $50 in 2 days?
Buy a couple of bags of groceries?
Fill up the gas tank on the family car?
Pay down some of what they owe on their plastic or mortgage.

There's a bit of "reality" -- the kind of "reality" that
it seems some people are trying pretty damned hard to ignore.
