Sorry, my previous post stated:

"It is this earlier multi-polar "balance of power" world that to my mind we are revisiting. What countries constitute primary poles of this world? The European Union, Europe, China, Russia, and quite possibly the Islamic peoples of North Africa, the Middle East, and Central Eurasia."

The last sentence should have read:

"The European Union, the U.S., China, Russia, and quite possibly the Islamic peoples of North Africa, the Middle East, and Central Eurasia."

Great Britain would straddle somewhere between the U.S. and the EU, but her foreign policy is much more aligned with the U.S. IMO.

Note also that recent and current attempts to form currency blocks are very reflective of this multi-polar geopolitical arrangement - including the Islamic Gold Dinar, and discussion of a pan-Asian currency block.
