When all is said and done, does it matter whether it is or not?

It's just wrong.

Even if it is "wrong" in the eyes of some people, it continues NOT to be wrong in eyes of most. If you want to amend the Constitution, fine. But to suggest that the Contitution, as-is, somehow precludes the use of "Under God" in the Pledge is ridiculous. Separation of church and state does not extend to such things as requiring removal of an image from a state seal that has been there for many years, or removal of "In God We Trust" from our money (which has been there essentially since inception), or any of hundreds of other incidental mentions of God.

We know this because these items have been intact for decades, in some case for centuries, in such places as the Supreme Court building, in Lincoln's inaugural address, and hell, in the taking of the oath in the first place.

It is an absurd notion that these things are "wrong".
