<the bombing of New York and Washington could not go unanswered> Invading Iraq had nothing to do with answering 9/11. This is the sort of bait and switch that really annoys people. I spoke over the weekend to a man who had just lost his brother in Iraq -- why did he lose his brother? Was it to rid Iraq of WMD? There were none. Was it to stop active WMD programs? There were none. Was it to respond to the colaborative links to al Qaeda? There were none. When something so important as the loss of American lives is answered by pretending that we invaded Iraq in answer to 9/11, it is an insult to the soldiers who are being killed in Iraq. They desrve to know what they are dying for.

<<the bombing of New York and Washington could not go unanswered. Al Qaeda had the initiative, and they made us an offer we could not refuse... I don't think OBL expected to get evicted from his property which was Afghanistan. He bit off more than he can swallow. Most likely, he miscalculated and screwed up, maybe even fatally.>>

Agreed, the invasion of Afghanistan was a necessary and appropriate answer. Clear linkage to 9/11, perps had been trained there, and perps were being harbored on the ground there. The US was totally united behind that effort, and it was a valiant one. Certainly not a disaster.

What was missing from the second campaign is all that 9/11 linkage, and all that unity. Apples and oranges.
