it was only a matter of time before the situation arose where we would have to take him out.

Nobody knows the future. It's crazy to trade the remote possibility of disaster in the future for the certainty of disaster in the present.

Besides, it was worth it as a humanitarian effort, and as a means to change the geopolitical dynamic in the region.

There was no humanitarian crisis, and changing dynamics is not a reason for war.
