I didn't say that India and Afghanistan have identical systems, or even nearly identical systems of government or economies. However, culturally, as you move from south India towards the north, you notice that the north has more in common with Pakistan/Afghanistan than it has with the south.

This has nothing to do with the political and economic systems in the three countries, which are obviously divergent -- Pakistan is largely a feudal economy with unstable political system, India is more of an open economy with a stable political system and Afghanistan is in chaos, both politically and economically.

And culture is not all religion either. It is a lot more complex than that. A south Indian Hindu can find a lot more in common with a south Indian Muslim than with a Hindu from northwest India (which is quite close to Pakistan as well as Afghanistan).
