The reality is that Rush is a Rep hack and doesn't understand traditional conservative principles. And he plays to the base instincts of his brain dead listeners.

I rather suspect Rush's audience is comprised of the more intelligent people in the nation. I can't prove it; nor can you prove they are "brain dead". To you, "brain dead" means anyone who doesn't agree with you.
