TODAY DEALS WITH BERGER
By Cori Dauber

I gather they dealt with it yesterday as well, but here's how they dealt with it today: by interviewing Berger's lawyer, not really an unbiased source (so, doing this doesn't really get them off the hook of avoiding partisanship.) Couric then reads the lawyer a series of the most over the top quotes and asking for his response to each.

It's been said this is "a national security crisis. What's your reaction to that?"

It's been said by so and so that this was "an effort to keep information" from the 9/11 commission. "Was this" an effort to keep information from the 9/11 commission? Well, you can imagine how he's answering these questions.

She even feeds him lines, saying "and the original was kept in the archives?" (Why are we only talking about one document?)

Look, I understand they might not want a partisan shout fest on the question. So bring in somebody who can talk about document procedures and why they matter. This is just giving his lawyer free air time to explain how nothing bad or serious was done -- and, oh,yeah, leaking it means somebody has something up their sleeve.
