russ, You are right on about the Chinese running bluffs and playing chicken with commodities markets. They are masters and have been since the 1970s. They operate as a huge monolith while market speculators and smaller hedgers run scared trying to interpret their every move. I think what is going on in corn is indicative of this. Everyone knows they need corn, but the price keeps going down as they delay purchases. One of these days speculators will give up, the price will bottom and China will make a huge bargain purchase in the spot market.
