Hawk;

My comments in the previous post were targeted to the weakness of Bush from a standpoint of reality. Idealisticly you and he might be right - events have proven you both to have been wrong. Because he was wrong, America is in a weakened position.

How can you argue otherwise? We have already sucked back into the military almost everyone we can and still our military is stretched dangerously thin. You don't think the rest of the world knows that? Of course they do!! That is why China is willing to play mind games with us like the article that started this discussion.

<<Look at the demographics Steve.. 50% of the Saudi population is under 18.. They have over 30% unemployment>>
That is exactly right and they hate us. What's your point? Once again your idealism is admirable but escapes reality. Reality is that they hate us and all those impressionable kids who are under 18 and seeing and hearing of neighbors and uncles being killed (some of it surely propaganda) grow up to hate the US with a passion.

<<And this is a situation that many of our supposed "allies" permitted to occur..>>
Ya, every major country in the world is wrong and we are right. This is where the real weakness of Bush has been highlighted. Had he put together a meaningful coalition, the world could have been united in their defeat of terrorist. Bush instead went around calling all our allies names and insulting them and then wondered why they didn't march to war with us. The coalition is a joke - look who did not go with us. Look at the coalition of the unwilling China, Russia, Germany, France, Canada, Mexico and Spain.

Is the world safer because of the war? I don't feel safer.
