Sioux I think the problem with many of the neocon's here is that they don't view this as an election in which the object is to select the best qualified and most capable person. They think that this election is some sort of an us verses them game. They think of it as if it were a cross state football rivalry.

Most of the neocon's here know how much of a miserable failure of a president junior has been but they just ignore this and continue with their Limbaugh/Coulter talking points. Kerry doesn't have a chance of converting more than a few percentage points of people like this whose minds are so closed. There is a large segment (much much larger than the ones like what are here) of the right who even though they think they are solidly in the junior camp and won't change their minds will in some cases end up voting for Kerry when they learn more about what is and has been going on. The campaign has barely begun but junior has little chance of enticing new people to his side without some very dramatic dirty tricks. The biggest threat to Kerry's chances is not junior but theft of the election via the electronic voting terminals (aka electronic republicans.) Another event which could possibly swing the election to junior is if they are able to postpone the election until they have frightened the public into voting for junior.

From your post:

We are just trying to pay our health insurance around here.

We are too, and it's not getting any easier as we push into and through middle age. My husband and I did something I never thought would be necessary: we bought long term care insurance. Every quarter a significant chunk of money goes out to (hopefully) cover much of what our parents and grandparents expected as their right. And then there's the matter of our children's generation...

After the election, after OUR party, we'll get back together again as a country.

Gosh I hope you're right. And please, please, Lord, NO election ballot snafus. :-)
