That's nothing new actually. We're not on the brink of civil war. Actually, race relations have improved in the U.S. over the past few generations. The KKK has lost a lot of it's former power and influence. Sure, they'll always be around like maggots and flies. But, really they've lost presitiege. Some of their hot button issues, like crime, aren't as pressing anymore. In general, they've been more or less aliented. Perhaps they still hold some sway in the South, no doubt they do, but even there the KKK is just a shell of what it once was. They used to have people in all sorts of positions of power and influence, and that's just not the case anymore. Now, it's just a bunch of ignorant rednecks who might meet in some clandestine location from time to time. Of course, some of our right wing politicians don't help matters much, but despite that, the U.S. has made progress.
