And you can be sure, Oral, that the Demo leadership is scratching its collective head. They convinced themselves that they were in a win-win position. They listened to Howard Dean and then looked around for what they thought was a REAL War Hero (He has three puple hearts, remember) and Bush was AWOL, remember. Then they selected a "beautiful" candidate for VP. (He's beautiful, Theresa Heinz Kerry said.) But the VP bounce, if it came at all, faded quickly. The only problem with the Demo strategy is that several of their troops came up short in the preliminary battles. First there was Wilson (Bush Lied, Wilson intoned, convincing his leaders and the Liberal press of his scam.) The only problem is that it was not Bush who lied. It was Wilson himself. Then, just as the Demos were geared up to make Intelligence and Security THE issue assuring them victory in November, Berger got caught! Talk about Intelligence and Security. The former Clintonist had his hands in the cookie jar trying to retrieve all of those damaging personal notes and other classified documents useful to Kerry when he fashioned his policy statements demonstrating his great wisdom when compared with Bush. (Interesting that the Kerry position paper on National Security and Intelligence recently posted on the DNC webpage has mysteriously been removed following the Berger fiasco.) So, Oral. You are right. With the amounts Kerry and Company have been spending, one would think that Bush was toast. And yet, and yet, and yet! Bush has not only held his own. He is recovering lost ground. Rasmussen has Bush out in front of Kerry by 2 points in the latest poll. And this for the first time in July.
