It has been my impression that since Q has improved the core patents to a point where it can demand that buyers pay one price even if a single patent is used, the business model allows for the expiration of core patents without affecting the price structure.

True. BUT what if someone comes along in 2010 and decides to build a CDMA cell system. They don't absolutely need the non-core patents to make it work (unless they were trying to tie into CDMA2000 or probably WCDMA) and the core patents (which they absolutely must have) are expired.

Not a super plausible scenario, but not impossible.
