OT; Wade I posted that because as mish said you did sound a little emotional. The Chinese effectively started colonising Taiwan in the 1600's around the same time the French contingent in my gene pool was stealing lands from the natives here in Canada (1640).... Pretty recent. The Taiwan of today is even far more recent though no ? Beginning with the Nationalist defeat ? I wonder at it being held up as a long standing bastion of democracy in the still active propaganda war against PRC.

Imagine if the American Confederacy had of managed to flee to, and survive in say... Cuba ? Boy would Castro ever be pi$$ed.. ;o)

The number of indigenous peoples in Taiwan is relatively small and not much to do with the Chinese population really. That was not really the point. More akin to Jay's thinking it is likely better to plan for what will likely happen than to worry about visceral reactions to things we don't like.. although a good rant can be therapeutic.. Odds are it's going to happen and yeah how far back do we go...

When I was a little guy, every double 10 used to be a big deal in our family .. The old timers (Chinese ones as I'm mixed) hate for the communists was only surpassed by their loathing of the Japanese.. We'd go to China town.. (a couple of years I was even in the lion dance)... wear our little Dr. Sun pins and wave our Nationalist flags.. seems like a million years ago now.. Oh the drums and the fire cracker smoke...

Kastel
