Of course, there's a major difference in my thinking then vs. my thinking now... I thought it would be a good idea to put a Muslim democracy in the Middle East... it's since dawned on me that there already is one, and democracy still isn't beginning to flourish throughout the ME -- Turkey! So, maybe the New American Century Project was a bad idea, good planning or bad planning.

And Turkey's democracy is barely that. Its corrupt and incompetent; to whit, the train wreck this week. They were running hi speed trains on track that had not been upgraded. The Turks have killed more Kurds than Saddam. Human rights violations are an every day occurrence in Turkey.

Turkey wants to join the EU. In turn, the EU has placed economic and democratic stipulations on what Turkey must do to make the grade. So what does Bush do; he tries to do an end run and make it into a religious issue......the EU doesn't want Turkey because its Muslim.

I think we need to pull out of the ME until we develop some sophistication.
