Bush credited American intelligence gathering and ingenuity with the capture of Saddam Hussein last December. The link below

suggests that Bush had lied. It was the Kurds that got Saddam first. Then a deal was struck with the US for political power before Saddam was drugged and left in a hole for pickup by the Americans.
