Well, that's a whole other ball of wax. I have no doubts that the Israelie/Palestinian conflict would have been settled years and years ago, if the U.S. had put its foot down and told the Israelies that if they want our money, they have to come to terms with the Palestinians. The U.S. holds a hell of a lot of sway (like $4 Billion worth) over that conflict, and the arabs are rightfully angry at the U.S. for our support of Israel. No way in hell Israel could continue their armed struggle without U.S. financial and military support.

I'm all for the existence of Israel. But, not at our expense. They can figure out a way to survive and coexist with the Palestinians, or they can go without our money.

Our continued support for the Israelies probably has a lot more to do with our general support for militarism than any other factor, besides the Israel lobby in the U.S. Weapons/arms dealing is one of the most lucrative trades in the world, up there with gold and oil. Most of the money we give to Israel is sent right back to the U.S. in the form of arms buying and other military procurement. It's all a big scam. We give them $4 Billion of our taxpayer's money every year, and they turn around and fatten the coffers of the military industrial complex in the U.S. by buying arms.

Everyone in the loop benefits. The American taxpayer loses, as does the Israelies and Palestinians who have to endure endless militarism and conflict. There is no incentive to actually solve these problems. The incentive lies with maintaining the status quo, which is why in my lifetime of 35 years, essentially nothing has changed in the Palestinian/Israelie conflict.
