And Turkey's democracy is barely that. Its corrupt and incompetent; to whit, the train wreck this week. They were running hi speed trains on track that had not been upgraded. The Turks have killed more Kurds than Saddam. Human rights violations are an every day occurrence in Turkey.

But it's far, far ahead of the other countries in the area, other than Israel.


Yes, but that's a tentative yes. Turkey like Eastern European countries and even Russia believes in democracy so long as it doesn't interfere with the goals and wishes of its leaders. They are a democracy comparable to say a UK like a county fair is an amusement park comparable to Six Flags.

Having said that, you are right......they are the best the ME has to offer exclusive of Israel.
