Why, do you think, his aides let him sit there like that? Didn't they need him? Why do you think he didn't go where his aides were discussing and taking action.....? Did you see the film????

They were intended to ridicule.

When I saw the movie, nobody in the theater laughed at that point. Nobody jeered either. Instead, the reaction was one of shock -- as if they finally realized that the emperor really was not wearing any clothes all along.
