How close is the draft? How bad is DoD hurting?

Admittedly anecdotal, but I know a guy who's a former SEAL, was in the reserves as a construction engineer and demolition expert, including underwater demolition. He's over 40, been discharged from the reserves for 4 yrs. Got called up a few weeks ago. DoD wants him back. The very next day, a syndicated story appeared in local press about this call-up, saying the army needed(excuse me while I choke), among other things, musicians for military funerals.

He was told he still had 2 years of "ready reserve" time and that he could be called up. They want him in Iraq. This is happening to thousands. Lawsuits are firming and this call-up will be contested. He happens to have a work-related injury right now from an auto accident, so the DoD guy wanted to check on all the details to verify, but he got the impression they either want replacements in Iraq or they want people who can serve as trainers here. But hey, after 4 yrs out, how good a trainer could he be?
