If your theory was true there would be low GDP because GDP adds up the sum of the value of all products and services produced. If people were getting paid a lot less than what they used to according to your theory, then GDP numbers would suffer. GDP numbers show annual growth between 3 and 4 percent. Anything more than 4 percent annual growth and you have an inflationary environment.
