People came out of the 2000 election not liking Bush, and they still don't.

True, but some people came out of the election ambivalent, like me, and ended up not liking him. But even most of those who didn't like him from the get-go were accessible right after 9/11 had he reached out rather than running them off.

I know you don't care about that particular cadre. You only care that he has fifty percent of the electors plus one. But I care about the divisiveness and I think that he and you should, too. The point you made that started this colloquy was that the intellectuals are on the other side and that is not a Good Thing because they could be useful. I submit that that was unnecessary. Even if they weren't useful, they could have helped keep the hard core at bay so they didn't consume so much of the nation's energy.

So you were turned off by his approach. I wasn't.

Yeah, yeah. Still stupid to throw away a whole class of people unnecessarily.
