You are referring to tiny producers that do not mean anything in the grand scheme of things. The big mills - I mean really big mills that make up the market DO NOT switch back and forth between metric and dimensional. They go full out day and night producing dimension lumber for domestic market. They really are sophisticated marvels.

Actually add to that a surge in exports of raw lumber to Asian countries where they mill it themselves with the usual reduced labour cost... I don't think lumber needs be that local either...

Interesting relationship here between the US and Canada
for sawn lumber Canada is a huge exporter south.. endgame.org
but for raw logs a different story ... endgame.org
