I am interested in whether on not the pension funds will invest over the caps Ottawa put in place. Basically the funds have been telling the provinces "We're underfunded and can't meet our obligations to beneficiaries without investing more in the trusts". The provinces have been saying they need Ottawa to raise the caps. If they do, the trusts will take off. It is unfortunate the Federal gov't just looks at the money they forgo on lost tax revenue instead of how the trusts have helped grow business in Canada. How well would these companies be without the up to 50% participation by non-residents? What about Bay Street and all the lawyers and accountants and bankers? Sometimes it is such a myopic view.
