They both sure caved easy. As for MTV -- I don't watch it anymore, I don't like rap, hiphop, or boy haircut bands. I have a hard time believing that the world is watching rappers, salivating at the thought of their women showing their booties in public and their young men dripping with blingbling. At least the ones who come here don't seem to be into that. They work their fannies off, save up, buy houses, investment houses, start businesses, work two jobs. At least the Asians, Latin Americans, Middle Easterners, Eastern Europeans, and Africans do. I just don't see Western Europeans doing that. I am sure that materialistic people worldwide realize that America is a great place for materialism. Nothing wrong with that. But maybe they should pay attention to what's happening to socialism in France and Germany. Getting rid of the 35 hour work week in France, and acceptance of a longer workweek in Germany should be sending a powerful message that freedom and material wellbeing are possible in their own countries if they kick out the socialists. Edit: this all seems so trivial when I think about what's going on in the Sudan. Talking about MTV as a beacon for the world seems sort of sickening when I think of black women being systematically raped with the approval of the powers that be because they are black. The world is ignoring genocide of black people once again. To the extent that MTV perpetuates the stereotype of black women as sex objects, that is not something to be proud of.
